Participating in the Virtual World Conference 2008, april

February 28, 2008

We decided to showcase DinoKids in the 2008 Virtual World Conference held on April 3rd to 4th in New York, USA. We’re very excited and nervous about participating in a worldwide conference that is attended by many of the virtual world industry experts.
This will be DinoKids’s very first debut to public, so we hope that our showcase is successful and that we receive valuable feedback about our development.
We’re participating in the conference as a Bronze Sponsor, and will keep you updated with more information later.

History of DinoKids 10: Can We Jump, Chat, and Act All at the Same Time?

February 19, 2008

We were bombarded with questions while we were testing the character jump, chatting, and shop functions.

“Can we make characters chat while jumping?”
“Can we make characters move forward while jumping?”
“Please, ask one thing at a time!” our programmer yelled.

We felt much more restricted in creating a virtual world based on flash than based on the typical online game platform which uses a full client program and server.

It’s not that difficult to implement jumps and double jumps for normal side-scrolling MMO games, but in DinoKids, which is based on flash, designing even a normal jump requires complicated logic and extra work to properly synchronize the action to the virtual world.

We’ll be definitely adding more character actions to the world. We’ve learned that there are technical limits in making such a huge flash based virtual world, and are trying to figure out how to improve DinoKids as much as we can within those limitations.

History of DinoKids 9: You Don’t Have to Walk All Day

February 18, 2008

We thought it’d be more fun to have more ways to move the dinosaurs than just walking and jumping, so added and tested a few more ways to move characters such climbing ladders and ropes, moving uphill and downhill, and using escalators and teleport.

Also, We thought of adding a devious little function that might let bad dinosaurs press some sort of switch that would cause a blackout throughout their world.

That sounds like it might be fun… Or maybe not?
